Connected Food Service for Elders, Addressing an Increase in Isolation and Disconnected Living
Connected Food Service for Elders, Addressing an Increase in Isolation and Disconnected Living
Description
In this EU-funded research project, we united stakeholders from academia, business, and public sectors across Denmark, Italy, the Netherlands and Romania to explore how sustainable, digital innovation can drive social activities and food-related behavior change. Through qualitative research, we mapped cultural patterns and pain points, revealing opportunities to connect tradition with technology.
We designed, prototyped, and piloted a first-of-its-kind service, blending IoT solutions with community-driven experiences. Through cross-border workshops and stakeholder collaboration, we tested the service in three countries, proving that even complex food systems can be transformed with human-centered design and collective action.
Outcome
- Facilitated collaboration among 8+ institutions and businesses, aligning diverse stakeholders on a shared vision for sustainable food innovation through co-creation workshops and stakeholder mapping.
- Designed and launched a pilot service in Italy, the Netherlands and Romania, integrating IoT prototypes with community engagement, demonstrating feasibility and gathering actionable insights for scalability.
- Translated qualitative research on social food behaviors into tangible design principles, enabling partners to develop localized solutions that respect tradition while embracing technology.
